Exciting News! PERMITS can now be submitted through Oxcart!!!
Permits Required for Activities Within the County Road Right-of-Way
The Road Commission issues permits that are needed to put in a driveway, erect a sign, put in a pipeline or utility line, move an oversized load, and in general any other act which requires obstruction of or in the right-of-way. Crawford County enforces the same restrictions established on State highways; any load over 8 1/2 feet wide or over 65 feet long requires a permit. Load limits in Michigan depend on axle weight and on the tire size as well as how far apart the axles are. Trucker’s maps are available from MDOT that have charts giving the maximum loads per axle as well as the general Rules for the Movement of Oversize or Overweight vehicles and Loads for the CCRC. Annual “CAB” permits are available but are not valid during Spring Frost Laws.
Activities Not Permitted Within the County Road Right-of-Way
Placement of fences, retaining walls, sprinkler systems, landscaping rocks, boulders, or berms, filling existing drainage ditches or dumping debris, planting trees/shrubs/bushes, and installing light posts or other encroachments considered hazardous by the road commission.
Please allow 24 hours for approved permits to be returned. ALL permits are to be paid for in advance of issuance!
